Term 2 Week 2 24 April 2024
Principal - Ms Katrina Dunne
I extend a warm welcome back to each of you as we enter a very productive term at St Mary’s School. Our school community thrives on collaboration, shared values, and a commitment to nurturing our young learners. Let’s dive into the latest happenings and important events:
Anzac Day Commemoration
Anzac Day, a significant occasion in our nation’s history, provides an opportunity for reflection, gratitude and unity. This morning, Wednesday 24th April, we held a solemn ceremony at 8:30am at our Performing Arts Hall. Families were cordially invited to join us as we paid tribute to the brave men and women who served our country.
Community March
On Thursday 25th April, our students have a unique chance to actively participate in the community march. This event allows them to connect with the wider community, fostering a sense of pride and civic responsibility. To ensure a respectful and cohesive presence, all students are requested to wear their full formal uniform. Let’s march together, embodying the values of courage, respect and unity. Please meet at the Neighbourhood Centre on Alfred Street at 9:30am. The march commences at 9:40am.

Welcome Back!
It’s been a delightful start to the term as we celebrate the liturgical season of Easter. At assembly on Friday, we celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus and joy of the Easter season. A big thank you to our Yr 6 class who led us in prayer and song.
Sacramental Program
Our Sacramental program will look a little different this year, with Bishop Ken visiting Charleville in June for Confirmation. Candidates will receive their first Holy Communion in term 3. Please see dates below:
Saturday, June 1st – 6pm Parish Mass – Children’s mass
Saturday June 15th – 6pm Parish Mass – Confirmation with Bishop Ken
Parents of candidates will receive communication through parent portal this week around a meeting time in week 3 to discuss Confirmation requirements.
Wishing our St Mary’s families and community a blessed Easter Season,
Kirsty Lines

Term 2 is here already! I hope everyone had a good holiday! We have a busy term ahead with assessments and reports, Under 8’s Day (fun day), entries for the Charleville show and lots of learning to be done.
Students had a great time at the Cross-Country and the Colour Run at the end of last term. It was great to see students really trying to do their best at both runs.
This term has us revising all the sounds we have learnt so far. Please continue to help your child practise naming and writing each of the alphabet sounds. Homework starts again this week!
Year 1 - Ms Susan Holloway
Hello everyone!
Welcome back to Term Two. I hope you had an opportunity to relax during the Easter/School Holiday break.
This term started with excited students keen to share their holiday news. We are now getting back into our daily routine and new learning challenges.
As part of our Literacy learning, we will be investigating Fairy Tales this term. Students will be exploring what makes this genre unique and at the end of the term, they will be writing and illustrating their own Fairy Tale which will be made into a book. They are excited to become published authors and are keen to write for an audience!
Stay safe and enjoy a snap shot of some of our learning so far:
Making sentences together and checking to make sure we have finger spaces between each word.
Exploring the properties of 2D shapes
Creating a new design for our classroom during Geography. We need to make space for our next project!
More designers hard at work!
Practicing hearing sounds in words and doing a great job. Go Team!

Welcome back to Term 2!
We have lots of exciting things happening in Year 2. We kicked off our learning last week looking at fairy tales. Students loved learning about Jack and the Beanstalk and changing the start or ending of the story.
In math this term we have been looking at place value and using MAB blocks. We have been trying to understand what happens when we change a number from 99 to 100. It has been wonderful to watch students learn through seeing.
I can't wait to see what else we get up to this term!
Thanks,
Imogen Hunt
