Prayer Assemblies
Well done Year 5, who presented a very informative prayer assembly on Friday, May 3. Year 5 talked about the Mercy value of Compassion and linked this value to the gospel parable of ‘The Good Samaritan.’ It was fantastic to see so many parents there to support our students. Wondering when your child’s prayer assembly is? Please take a look at the table below and enjoy some photos from the Year 5 Prayer Assembly.

Year 3 - Miss Katherine Spalding
Year three has been off to a busy start this term. In English we have been analysing and writing procedural texts. This week, students will prepare their own presentation to share a procedure with the class in week 5. In religion, the students have been reading different bible passages and interpreting different ways that God has been portrayed.
Through our HaSS unit we are learning all about Australia’s neighbours. It has been fascinating investigating how people who live in countries so close to Australia can live very different lives to ours.
In science we are exploring the properties of different states of matter. In the images below, we filled balloons with solids, liquids and gas and investigated how each one reacted differently when held or even popped!
Through maths lessons, we have covered a variety of concepts including measurement, geometry and strategies for mental addition and subtraction. In the images below, we utilised the battleship board game to practice our mapping skills.
Year 4 - Mr Bob Grant
This week our Year 4's have been working very hard on their transitioning and beginning new tasks as part of our literacy rotations. I'm pleased to say they are improving each day. The PLD (Phonics Literacy Development) program and reading rotations every morning are providing some great challenges to assist with decoding and ultimately help our students understand text and enjoy reading. Well done Year 4.
Mr Grant
Year 5 - Miss Holly Price
This term, our focus of each subject area is outlined below:
English: Poetry.
Math: Angles, grids and 24-hour time.
Religion: Holy Spirit.
HASS: Democracy.
Science: states of matter (solids, liquids, gases).
I would like to say a huge thank you to all year 5 students for a fantastic start to term 2! Pictured below, students enjoyed their end of term celebration at Rusty Lane and the Town Park,
have been completing their daily writing while outdoors,
and absolutely smashed their prayer assembly!
Year 6 - Miss Taylor Morrison
Wow, Week 4 of Term 2 already! Oh, how time flies when you’re having fun!
Over the past 3 weeks at St Mary’s, our Year 6 students have been busy, not only learning, but developing their leadership skills. In Week 1, we attended the Murweh Youth Council Meeting where members of the council, community and students from our local schools met to discuss current issues and future plans for Charleville.
In Week 2, we commemorated Anzac Day by coming together as a whole school and paying our respects. Year 6 students did a wonderful job leading this and explaining to our younger students the importance of remembering the Anzacs. We were lucky enough to participate in an art workshop with Mrs Williams to learn about silhouette art and discuss what we know about Anzac Day. How awesome did these turn out!
Year 3-6 students got to engage in Topology again last week, which involved drumming, dance and song writing. What a wonderful opportunity for our students!
Clubs are back up and running! At second break on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, our Year 6 students are leading lunch time clubs. We are noticing some wonderful leadership from our seniors. Check out some photos of Gymnastics Club!
We have been super engaged in the classroom over the past few weeks. In English, we are looking at Free Verse Poetry, with a focus on the verse novel ‘Bindi’ by award-winning poet Kirli Saunders. The text portrays one tumultuous year in the life of an 11-year-old Indigenous girl, her close family and friends. The storyline pays attention to the importance of Indigenous land management and in particular the use of fire and low-level burns to avoid catastrophic fire. We have also been looking at timetables, businesses, reversible and irreversible changes and are drawing a strong focus to our Mercy Value of Compassion.
We look forward to continuing our learning this term and smashing our goals!
Until next time,
Miss Morrison and the Year 6 Crew.
